Looking for a fun, family oriented activity that doesn’t break the bank?
Take it from us. The Marlies are the most affordable, “can’t beat winter” attraction in the Greater Toronto Area.
After attending a Marlies game with your family, the only thing your kids will be doing afterwards is asking when you’ll be coming back.
We saw firsthand that the product on the ice is fast, exciting, and has a mix of talent range, including goal scorers, set-up guys, and grinders, just like the NHL. It’s also a chance for fans to see the next crop of talent that could be with their respective big clubs for years to come.
There is never a dull moment during stoppages either. The Marlies girls seems to be always dancing, cheering or giving away free swag – mostly to the kids in the crowd.
Also, towards the end of the game, the Marlies have a ticket giveaway for the loudest/most enthusiastic fan in attendance. Participation is enthusiastically encouraged, from both young and old.
Many families were in attendance, including one young couple, Marco and Amanda, from Toronto with their two sons. They are season ticket holders, and had nothing but good things to say about their experience.
“The kids love hockey, and it’s a lot of fun for us as well,” said Marco. Added Amanda, “We’re very busy and don’t have a lot of time. We’re from the area, and it’s just that one thing we get to do as a family because we all enjoy it.”
Like any game, there were intermission activities in which people were randomly selected from the crowd to participate.
During the first intermission, they held a hamster race, which consisted of two people running in inflatable spheres in a course around the rink. Very entertaining!
The second intermission included the very popular Pizza Pizza Super Hero Shootout. Batman, Superman and Flash took on Wolverine, Spiderman and Captain America in a battle to try and win a free pizza for a lucky row. Marlies Mascot Duke the Dog was the number one star, coming up with some big saves.
One unconventional idea that the Marlies have is their live band night during Friday home games. They hire local bands from the area to come and play music during the warm-up and commercial breaks. The songs on this particular night were a wide range of cover material for all ages to dance and sing along to.
Overall, we felt that our first experience at a Marlies game was very exciting, and know that you and your family will enjoy it even more.
With single game tickets starting as low as $10, how can you not afford to go see the next crop of NHL stars?
