Ottawa 67’s’ Tyler Toffoli Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 22.  Toffoli scored four goals and four assists for eight points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Toffoli helped the 67’s win all three games on the week beginning last Wednesday night when he scored a goal and an assist as second star of a 3-2 shootout win over the Belleville Bulls.  Two nights later he was rewarded with first star of the game honours scoring a goal and an assist Friday for the second straight game in a 4-3 comeback win over the Plymouth Whalers.  He finished the week with his first career four-point game scoring two goals including the game-winner and the insurance marker plus two assists as first star of a 6-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers.

Toffoli, a 17-year-old from Scarborough, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the 67’s.  He has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 22 games and also scored two goals in two games as a member of Team OHL in the 2009 SUBWAY® Super Series.  Toffoli is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Greyhounds’ Robin Lehner Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Robin Lehner of the Soo Greyhounds is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 22.  Lehner backstopped the Hounds to three wins earning his first two career shutouts posting an impressive GAA of 0.670 and a save percentage of .974.

Lehner was perfect last Wednesday night making 27 saves to earn his first career OHL shutout blanking the Sudbury Wolves 7-0 as third star of the game.  It did not take him long to earn second shutout as he made 25 saves and stopped the Sarnia Sting on all seven of their power plays to earn second star of the game in a 2-0 win on Saturday evening.  He surrendered just two goals on 76 shots in three games with boath goals allowed in Friday night’s 4-2 win over the Guelph Storm, turning aside 22 shots.

Lehner is an 18-year-old from Gotehnburg, Sweden, playing in his first OHL season after being selected ninth overall in the 2009 CHL Import Draft.  He is a prospect of the Ottawa Senators as he was selected 46th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.  He is expected to contend for the starting job at the 2010 Sweden World Junior team.
