Hodgson Out of WJC
Cody Hodgson informed Hockey Canada that he will not be ready to compete in the Selection Camp for the WJC that begins this weekend in Saskatchewan.
The Vancouver Canucks prospect has been sidelined since training camp with a lingering back injury he sustained during summer training. He is practicing with the Brampton Battalion but there is no timetable set for his return. Hockey Canada’s rules state that a player has to participate in the selection camp to be considered for the team. Hodgson could be playing games before the WJC but since he won’t be ready for this weekend he will not be able to join team Canada.
The 19-year-old Markham native was instrumental in Canada’s gold medal win last year in Ottawa. He lead all scorers with five goals and 11 assists last Christmas. He was pegged to be captain at this year’s event.
There are currently no plans to add a player like Zack Kassian or Joe Colborne to replace Hodgson.
More on this as information comes to me.
