Winterhawks’ Ian Curtis Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League announced Tuesday that Ian Curtis of the Portland Winterhawks is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 13.  Curtis posted a 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 1.47 and a save percentage of .957.

Curtis began his week on Tuesday where he stopped a season-high 44 shots in a 4-3 overtime win on the road against the Everett Silvertips.  Curtis made 18 of his saves in the second period and stopped the Silvertips on eight of their nine power play opportunities.  The two teams faced-off again on Sunday with Curtis shutting the door at home with 23 saves as first star of the game in the 2-0 win over the Silvertips to earn his second shutout of the season and his career.

Curtis, a 19-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, is playing in his third WHL season and has produced an 11-4-0-1 record for the Winterhawks who currently sit in second place in the U.S Division with 43 points.

Remparts’ Jonathan Audy-Marchessault Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League announced Tuesday that forward JonathanAudy-Marchessault of the Quebec Remparts is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 13 after scoring three goals and six assists for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Audy-Marchessault scored two goals including the overtime winner on Saturday night to lead the Remparts to a 4-3 win over the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.  The win earned Remparts head coach Patrick Roy a new club record for career wins with 195 surpassing Guy Chouinard who recorded 194 from 1997 to 2002.  Audy-Marchessault scored the game-winning goal again on Sunday and also added four assists for the second five-point game of his career as second star of the 7-4 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.  His week also included a two assist performance Friday night despite a 4-3 loss to the Victoriaville Tigres.

Audy-Marchessault, an 18-year-old from Cap-Rouge, QC, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Remparts.  He currently ranks third on his club in scoring with 35 points in 35 games.
