Hitmen’s Martin Jones Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 7. Jones won three games including one shutout victory for a goals-against-average of 0.670. He also made 89 saves on 91 shots for a save percentage of .978.

Jones had his top performance of the week on Saturday recording his WHL-leading fifth shutout of the season making 33 saves as first star of a 2-0 win at home over the Medicine Hat Tigers. He was also named first star of the game Thursday night when the Hitmen played the Tigers in Medicine Hat in the first game of the home-and-home series making 33 saves including 15 in the third period to preserve a 4-1 victory. On Wednesday night Jones made 23 saves in a 2-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos.

Jones, a 20-year-old from North Vancouver, BC, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Hitmen. A member of Canada’s National Junior Team, Jones has eight wins in his last 10 games including four shutout wins and has the fourth best goals-against-average in the WHL with a mark of 2.54.

Cataractes’ Michael Bournival Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Michaël Bournival of the Shawinigan Cataractes is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 7.  In three games Bournival recorded eight points including two goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

Bournival led the Cataractes to three wins this week over the Lewiston MAINEiacs and was named first star in two of the contests highlighted by his top performance Saturday recording a career-high four assists as first star of a 5-3 win.  Earlier in the week he scored a goal in a 3-2 win after beginning his week on Tuesday night scoring a goal and two assists in the 6-1 win as first star of the game.

Bournival, a 17-year-old from Shawinigan-Sud, QC, is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Cataractes.  Eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Bournival competed in the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and has already set career-highs this season in all offensive categories with 20 goals and 30 assists for 50 points in 45 games.
