Thoughts on the Awards

For the most part, the NHL got it right this year.  They had a very funny host in Jay Mohr, some A-list and B-list celebrities, and some very funny skits (see Ryan Getzlaf vs. Bobby Ryan).

It was nice to see Duncan Keith with his full set of teeth – albeit temporary.  He said he spent seven hours in the dentist chair after the season was over with plenty of more work to be done.

Henrik Sedin was in very good spirits after winning both of his awards.  Said that Daniel cannot lay claim to being the better twin now.

Bruce Boudreau was stumped as to how Ovechkin did not win the MVP or Green win the Norris.  Blamed it on West coast voters not seeing enough of the players to make a good judgement and basing their vote on team success.

Jordan Staal, walking with crutches and his foot in a cast, told me he is two weeks away from being done rehab.

Winners from tonight, in order from earliest award to last;

Calder Trophy – Tyler Myers

Selke Trophy – Pavel Datsyuk

Art Ross Trophy – Henrik Sedin

Maurice Richard Trophy - Sidney Crosby and Steven Stamkos

Jack Adams Trophy – Dave Tippett

Vezina Trophy – Ryan Miller

Jennings Trophy -Martin Brodeur

Masterton Trophy - Jose Theodore

King Clancy Trophy - Shane Doan

Lady Byng Trophy - Martin St. Louis

NHL Leadership Award - Sidney Crosby

Norris Trophy – Duncan Keith

Foundation Player Award – Ryan Miller

Hart Trophy/NHL MVP - Henrik Sedin
