WHL Power Rankings

The Portland Winterhawks surge up to number one this week even with star forward Nino Niederreiter playing for the New York Islanders still. The Vancouver Giants also had a big week jumping up right spots to eighth going 3-0 last week.

After winning five in a row two weeks ago the Swift Current Broncos struggled last week going 1-2 dropping from eighth to 13th.

The two teams that competed in last year’s Memorial Cup, Brandon and Calgary went 0-3 and both slide closer to the bottom of the rankings.

Despite unimpressive offensive and defensive numbers the Saskatoon Blades continue to find ways to win games. However their 2-1 record last week drops them five spots to seventh.

Big changes in the rankings will settle as the season continues.

Just curious: is there any formula behind these rankings or is it generally subjective? I haven't come across these rankings before, but you've got my interest.

Yes, we have a formula that we have come up with to calculate the rankings based on season and weekly numbers.

Ha, just like it says at the bottom of the page. Sorry for the silly question.
