OTTAWA – During the first period intermission of the New Years Eve game between Canada and the United States, 56 year-old Rick Abbott, an electrician from Quesnel, B.C. will take his shot, literally, at winning one million dollars during the Chevrolet Traverse Million Dollar Shootout.
Mr. Abbott, who was chosen randomly from eight million online submissions, will need to score 15 goals in 24 seconds in order to successfully win the $1 million prize.
“I rented the ice back home and practiced everyday for about two hours to prepare for the event,” said Mr. Abbott.
After last year when Darwin Head, a sawyer from Prince Albert, SK, scored the 15 goals he needed to win during last years Chevrolet Malibu Million Dollar Shootout, TSN decided to run the contest with Chevrolet as its main sponsor once again.
Along with the shots for $1 million, Abbott, his son Derek and friend Owen will all have a chance to win brand new Chevrolet Traverse SUV’s for not only themselves, but for one lucky fan as well.
Although Mr. Abbott did not watch last year’s event, he said that he watched the tape for a few pointers, and that he was able to get on the ice yesterday at ScotiaBank Place.
“I was given the chance to practice once on the ice here,” said Mr. Abbott. “Tomorrow night, however, I will be going in cold. Thankfully my son Derek, and friend Owen will be shooting with me for the vehicles.”
When asked if he would be nervous tomorrow night in front of the 19,000 plus crowd, Mr. Abbott replied, “being nervous would be a huge under-statement.”
Catch all the action after the first period of the Canada-US game tomorrow night at 7 pm live on TSN.
