CALGARY, AB. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Mac Carruth, of the Portland Winterhawks, has been named the VAUGHN WHL Goaltender of the Month for September/October.

The 18 year-old goaltender posted a 6-1 record through September and October with one shut-out.  Carruth’s remarkable 1.558 goals-against average and 0.952 save percentage leads all WHL goaltenders, allowing just 11 goals on 231 shots-against in 424 minutes played, averaging over 30 shots a game.

Carruth’s consistent play has helped the Winterhawks post a 12-2-0-1 record through September/October for 25 points to lead the WHL U.S. Division, the Western Conference and entire WHL.  His efforts also earned him a Three Star selection in four of his seven games played, with two being 1st Stars.

Carruth, originally from Shorewood, MN, is in his second season with the Portland Winterhawks.  The Chicago Blackhawks selected the 6’2” goaltender in the 7th round of the 2010 NHL Draft.

His accomplishments make Mac Carruth a deserving choice as the VAUGHN WHL Goaltender of the Month for September/October.
