Saguenéens’ Hudon Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that rookie forward Charles Hudon of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 5.  Hudon scored a goal with eight assists for nine points in three games along with a plus-minus rating of plus-8.

Hudon produced three straight three-point games to lead the Saguenéens to three wins this week.  He began on Friday with three assists as first star of a 5-3 win over the Rimouski Oceanic.  On Saturday he recorded another three assists as second star of an 8-4 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.  His week wrapped up on Sunday with a goal and two assists to claim first star honours in an 8-5 win over the Victoriaville Tigres.

Hudon, a 16-year-old from Alma, Quebec, is currently third in scoring amongst QMJHL rookies with 26 points in 32 games.  Hudon, who is not eligible for the NHL Entry Draft until 2012, will compete in the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with Team Quebec.

Also considered for the award this week was forward Ryan Strome of the Niagara IceDogs and defenceman Mark Pysyk of the Edmonton Oil Kings.  Strome, a 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect, scored five goals and three assists for eight points in three games.  Pysyk, a Team Canada hopeful selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, scored two goals and four assists for six points in two games.
