Bull’s Subban Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Malcolm Subban of the Belleville Bulls is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 12.  Subban won two games posting a goals-against-average of 0.960 and save percentage of .972.

Subban began his week last Wednesday night and made 31 saves as the third star of a 6-1 win over the Oshawa Generals.  He followed that with a career-high 39 saves including 15 in the third period on Saturday night to lead the Bulls to a 2-1 shootout win over the Brampton Battalion where he was named first star of the game.

Subban, a 16-year-old rookie from Rexdale, ON, is the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens and former Belleville Bulls’ defenceman P.K Subban.  He leads all OHL rookie netminders with a goals-against-average of 2.69 and save percentage of .915 in 12 games this season with a record of 5-5-0-1.

Also considered for the award this week was Gabriel Girard of the Shawinigan Cataractes who earned two wins including a first star performance Friday night with 42 saves in a 3-2 win over the Montreal Juniors.  Drew Owsley of the Tri-City Americans also won two games this week with a goals-against-average of 1.07 and save percentage of .958.
