Cougars’ Priestner Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that James Priestner of the Prince George Cougars is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 2.  In two games Priestner recorded a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout win with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .956.

Priestner recorded his second shutout of the season last Wednesday night making 22 saves as second star of a 5-0 win over the Chilliwack Bruins.  He then opened the New Year on Sunday with a 21-save performance as part of a 5-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors to lift the Cougars into top spot in the WHL’s B.C Division with 43 points.

Priestner, a 19-year-old from Edmonton, AB, is playing in his fourth WHL season and currently holds a 12-9-2-0 record and has already set a career-high with 646 saves so far this season.

Also considered for the award this week was Gabriel Girard of the Shawinigan Cataractes who earned two victories with a goals-against-average of 1.92 and save percentage of .945.  Mavric Parks of the Saginaw Spirit was also strong in goal this week earning two wins in three starts including a 3-0 shutout win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors with 33 saves as first star of the game.
