Canada Undefeated in Germany

Canada played Norway, on Monday, in their third game of the round-robin in Dresden Germany moving to 3-0 after a 5-0 performance.

Less than a minute into the game Nick Cousins (Sault Ste. Marie, OHL) scores what proved to be the game winner, with goals by Mark Scheifele (Barrie, OHL) and Colin Smith (Kamloops, WHL). Scheifele, who scored the lone goal during the second period finished the game tied with Russia’s Nikita Kucherov for most goals scored in the tournament at five. Slater Koekkoek (Peterborough, OHL) added one more in the third period to finish of the game’s scoring.

Andrew D’Agostini (Peterborough, OHL) was given the starting position today by head coach Mike Williamson and showed no signs of weakness stopping all 19 shots he faced. Norway’s goalie Steffan Soberg, although not recording the win still managed to stop 58 saves on 63 shots including 23 shots in the first frame.

Canada will play it’s final round robin game Tuesday April 18 against Sweden, who in exhibition play days before the tournament beat the Canadian squad 4-3. The final round robin game will determine the top seed of Group B and also earn a potential bye to the semi-finals.
