Justin Shugg named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Justin Shugg of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors is the OHL Player of the Week with a league-high six points scoring three goals and three assists in the first four games of the Rogers OHL Championship Series against the Owen Sound Attack.

Shugg has recorded a point for the Majors in all four games of the Rogers OHL Championship Series against the Attack beginning with an assist as part of a 5-2 win in Game one last Tuesday night. He followed that with his best performance of the series scoring two goals as first star of a 6-2 win last Thursday night in Game two. He also picked up a pair of assists despite a 6-5 overtime loss on Friday, and scored the lone goal for the Majors in a 2-1 overtime loss on Sunday. With the series tied 2-2 the Majors host the Attack in Game five on Tuesday night.

Shugg, a 19-year-old from Niagara Falls, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and is a Carolina Hurricanes prospect selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Shugg led the Majors in regular season scoring with 87 points in 66 games and has 16 points in 17 playoff games. He will be competing for this third straight MasterCard Memorial Cup title after winning back-to-back championships as a member of the Windsor Spitfires.
